What to ask any window firm, and our answers
You'll probably talk to a few firms before you decide. These are the questions worth putting to each of them.
- Who comes to see me?A designer, not a salespersonThey measure every opening, talk through styles, colours and glass, and check the design against building regulations (escape windows, ventilation, safety glass and energy rating) so it's safe and compliant. The visit is free.
- What will it cost?A fixed written price before anything is orderedItemised, including VAT, FENSA registration and your guarantee. No haggling, no "manager's discount", and the price doesn't change on the day.
- How long will the fitting take?Most houses fitted in two daysYour windows and doors are made in three to four weeks (four to five for vertical sliding sash and the Residence Collection). On the day we protect your floors, take the old frames away and leave the house tidy.
- What do I get at the end?A certificate and a 10-year guaranteeWe register every job with FENSA, so you get your Building Regulations certificate, and your Installsure insurance-backed guarantee follows.
Over 40 years in the family trade
I'm Tommy Ayres. My family has been in the double glazing industry for over 40 years, and I started Ketos Glazing to carry that on and build something of my own.
I love this trade and the people in it. Most of all I like doing the job properly: a good product, fitted well, by people who turn up when they say they will and leave the place tidy.
Most of what we do is contract work, where every home is checked and signed off. I wanted homeowners to get that same standard on their own house, from the same team.
